Day 4 - Thursday: Continuing to Build!

To start off the day, we began work right away! While some of us were working on figuring out wiring, others were soldering and more. We continued to work until we all felt comfortable with stopping and taking a break to watch a film about an amazing Chinese artist, Cai Guo-Qiang. The movie, Sky Ladder: The Art of Cai Guo-Qiang (available on Netflix), talked about the unique methods of the artist and his dream to build a sky ladder, hence the title. He used gunpowder (one of China’s Four Great Inventions), firecrackers, and fireworks to create spectacular exhibitions which ranged from chilling statues, art pieces made from the aftermath of the explosions he worked with, and jaw-dropping displays of fireworks which include the fireworks for the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His fireworks represent nature, culture, life, and death.

After the movie, we headed over to lunch where we all enjoyed some food and exchanged laughs and smiles. Once we finished our break, we headed right back to work. A group continued on the spirograph machine and the other worked on modeling stuff in Adobe Illustrator for our larger machine built to draw on the whiteboard.

The day ended up pretty well and we all felt accomplished and satisfied with all of our hard efforts :) good job everybody and I can’t wait to see what we achieve tomorrow!
